About Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI)
Known globally as Première Urgence Internationale (PUI), PU-AMI is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to humanitarian aid. It operates independently from political or religious affiliations, focusing on assisting vulnerable and marginalized communities affected by conflict, natural disasters, and economic hardships. PU-AMI’s core mission is to reduce morbidity and mortality and to deliver emergency relief for those in critical need, helping them reclaim dignity.
The Afghanistan mission is PU-AMI’s longest-standing operation, with its initial medical intervention beginning in 1979 after the Soviet invasion. Currently, PU-AMI provides integrated healthcare services, which include nutrition, psychosocial support, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and trauma care. The organization’s projects are primarily in eastern Afghanistan, with an expanding focus in the South-East. Since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, PU-AMI has also become a key player in pandemic response, implementing health and WASH-focused activities in health facilities and communities across Kabul and surrounding areas.
Today, PUI offers support to approximately 6 million people across 23 countries and five continents: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe.
