Job Description

Responsibilities and Assignments

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychosocial support and psychological first aid to individuals impacted by war trauma, torture, gender-based violence (GBV), and natural disasters when necessary.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments to identify psychological distress.
  • Raise awareness, mediate, and engage with communities on issues of war, economic crises, torture, trauma, and GBV.
  • Use PU-AMI data tools effectively, ensuring timely and accurate submission of screening and assessment data, as well as PSS reports.
  • Collaborate closely with the PSS Supervisor and database staff to ensure reporting quality.
  • Enter data gathered from field and MHT levels.
  • Ensure all client interactions remain confidential, adhering to ethical practices sensitive to cultural and gender considerations.
  • Promote community awareness on psychological distress and available psychosocial support services.
  • Refer individuals to specialized services as needed, based on service mapping.
  • Engage in self-care through regular supervision, debriefings, and shared support sessions.
  • Attend all PU-AMI-facilitated training sessions related to PSS/PFA.
  • Provide follow-up for MHPSS cases as necessary, developing action plans for ongoing support.
  • Complete required documentation for quality reporting.
  • Attend weekly MHPSS supervision and training meetings.
  • Deliver psychosocial support to mothers and caregivers at MHT levels.
  • Create individualized progress reports to provide relevant data to stakeholders.
  • Promote self-sufficiency and resilience among beneficiaries and their families.
  • Ensure the safety, confidentiality, and autonomy of beneficiaries.
  • Assist with other tasks as directed by the expatriate MHPSS Coordinator.
  • Support any additional responsibilities assigned by MHPSS managers or related departments to enhance project outcomes.

Objective 1: Management of PSS Project Activities

  • Provide psychosocial support and psychological first aid to those affected by trauma, torture, GBV, and natural disasters.
  • Support pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as caregivers of malnourished children, both individually and in groups as needed.
  • Assist individuals experiencing psychological distress, following cultural context and program guidelines. Offer psychoeducation based on screening and criteria for group or individual PSS sessions.
  • Adhere to program guidelines for the admission and discharge of PSS beneficiaries, sharing activity data with the PSS Supervisor and database team.
  • Engage with community groups to address mental health and psychological well-being, promoting unity and resilience.

Objective 2: Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, or quarterly activity data and reports as outlined in the project plan.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports on specific issues, including security challenges or barriers to project progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality of project data and beneficiary information, securely storing records in designated locations.

Responsibilities

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certificate or diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, or a related health education field (Primary or Higher Health Program).
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing group and individual PSS support or therapy for individuals and groups with complex trauma histories.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a certified diploma in Psychosocial Counseling by MoPH is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of local context, language, culture, and key stakeholders; preference for candidates from the relevant province.
  • Proficiency in local languages, especially Pashto and Dari, is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently to project locations within and across provinces.
  • Dedicated commitment to humanitarian principles and causes.
