About Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI)

Première Urgence Internationale (PUI), also known as PU-AMI, is an international, non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious aid organization. PUI is dedicated to supporting vulnerable and marginalized communities affected by conflict, natural disasters, and economic challenges. The primary goal of PUI is to reduce morbidity and mortality and to provide emergency relief to those in urgent need, helping them restore their dignity.

The Afghan mission is PUI’s longest-standing operation, beginning in 1979 with an initial medical intervention following the Soviet invasion. Currently, PU-AMI provides integrated healthcare services that include nutrition, psychosocial support, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), as well as trauma services. The organization’s projects are primarily in the eastern regions of Afghanistan, with growing activity in the South-East. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, PU-AMI has become a key player in preparedness and response, conducting health and WASH-centered activities in health facilities and communities in Kabul and beyond.

Globally, PUI supports approximately 6 million people in 23 countries across five continents: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe.
