HealthNet TPO is a Netherlands-based non-profit, non-governmental organization founded on the principle that access to affordable, quality healthcare is a fundamental human right.
Established in 1992 by Doctors Without Borders to bridge the gap between emergency aid and long-term development, HealthNet TPO emerged from a merger between HealthNet International (HNI) and the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO). HNI brings extensive experience in strengthening healthcare systems and managing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases, while TPO is renowned for its expertise in psychosocial and mental health care for survivors of conflict and natural disasters. HealthNet TPO Afghanistan is operated by a team of qualified Afghan professionals, supported by experts based at the organization’s headquarters in the Netherlands.
In Afghanistan, HealthNet TPO provides primary healthcare, mental health, and psychosocial support services, combats malaria, and supports maternal and child healthcare through community midwife training and operational research. HealthNet TPO operates across nearly 20 provinces, implementing major programs such as the Health Emergency Response (HER) in three provinces, as well as nutrition, mental health and psychosocial support, and malaria and tuberculosis control initiatives, using a community system strengthening approach.
HealthNet TPO enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual exploitation, abuse, and child abuse, taking all concerns and complaints seriously, especially those involving HNITPO employees and related personnel.
