Job Description

Job Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the security unit, including staff movements, management of Security Guards and Drivers, and the protection of personnel, property, and assets. Key duties include patrolling and monitoring premises, controlling access, responding to incidents, enforcing security policies, and maintaining equipment and records.

Tasks:

  • Gather daily security information from various sources, circulate updates to all staff, and provide risk mitigation advice.
  • Implement movement restrictions in crisis situations and lift them once the security situation improves.
  • Coordinate vehicle availability for staff within the city and submit monthly reports on fleet data.
  • Record all vehicle movements, noting departure and arrival times.
  • Process access requests for visitors to high-security areas.
  • Organize monthly work rosters, leave schedules, and timesheets for security guards and drivers.
  • Issue card keys and office keys as needed to authorized personnel.
  • Monitor fire alarms, emergency alarms, smoke detectors, and panic alarms.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments of offices, guesthouses, and travel routes.
  • Inspect first aid kits, fire extinguishers, safe rooms, and security equipment for readiness.
  • Schedule security training sessions for guards, drivers, and other staff members.
  • Maintain both digital and hard copy records for tracking safety and security data.
  • Provide clerical and accounting support, including data entry, record tracking, and revenue documentation.
  • Prepare and store classified documents securely in both digital and physical formats.
  • Establish daily security clearance by consulting local authorities, intelligence personnel, and community contacts.
  • Ensure all communication tools are functional through daily checks and maintenance.
  • Oversee night security operations, ensuring guards are informed of protocols for radio communications (VHF).
  • Regularly patrol assigned indoor and outdoor areas to ensure the security of premises, staff, and assets.
  • Utilize surveillance tools like CCTV and vehicle tracking systems to monitor for suspicious activities or breaches.
  • Respond promptly to incidents or emergencies and document them in detailed reports for records.
  • Keep thorough logs of security activities, patrols, incidents, and visitor records to maintain accountability.
  • Supervise drivers during the day via radio or mobile communication as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of radio room equipment (VHF, HF, Codans, and Thuraya) in office and vehicles.
  • Maintain communication devices and manage extended VHF and UHF licenses in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Technology.
  • Supervise Guards and Drivers to ensure their adherence to safety and security protocols and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 4 years of verified experience in the security department of an NGO or INGO.
  • Understanding of basic safety and security principles, security frameworks, and radio communication protocols within an NGO environment.
  • Exhibits mutual respect, initiative, results-oriented approach, commitment to quality, calculated risk-taking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong strategic orientation in safety and security practices.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of database systems.
  • Proficient in English and local languages, both verbal and written, with strong customer service skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
