About AWEC

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-led national organization founded in 1991 by a group of Afghan women in exile. These women came together to address the lack of resources and support for Afghan refugees in Islamabad, and later, in Peshawar, Pakistan. AWEC has consistently engaged in advocacy and awareness initiatives to promote the rights of women and children, offering services to those who often fall outside conventional support systems. In recent years, a primary focus of AWEC has been empowering Afghan women by mobilizing support from local communities to political leaders, aiming to reduce and ultimately eliminate violence against women.

AWEC envisions “an inclusive and just society with a responsive public and private sector, where all women and children have access to opportunities to enhance their quality of life and achieve their full potential.”

AWEC maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding violations of its Code of Conduct, including safeguarding, sexual harassment, and fraud, applying this policy to all staff, consultants, contractors, volunteers, interns, suppliers, vendors, sub-grantees/partners, implementing partners, and other associates.
