About World Vision International

Established in 1992, Development and Humanitarian Services for Afghanistan (DHSA) works to redefine development across Afghanistan. DHSA’s mission is to promote a vibrant and resilient civil society, supporting local ownership of development efforts, fostering dignity, and working toward a peaceful, sustainable future for all Afghans.

During the 1990s, DHSA’s primary focus was on leveraging local knowledge and traditional networks to address the gaps left by a fragile national government and limited public services. At that time, DHSA undertook various projects, including water sanitation, irrigation, education, and food assistance for drought-affected communities, along with rural rehabilitation. These initiatives were made possible through partnerships with international aid organizations, including EC, USAID, WFP, WHO, the UN, Canada Fund, Care International, and Novib.

Following the political shifts brought by the Bonn Agreement in 2001, DHSA expanded its work to include strengthening civil society in Afghanistan. This included projects in media, education, and community development, in addition to ongoing humanitarian aid efforts.

Today, DHSA pursues its mission through five core activities:

  • Humanitarian Initiatives
  • Public Media and Communication (TKG)
  • Education
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation
  • Environmental Protection
